Angles of Elevation and Depression
Let us understand the angle of Depression and the angle of elevation with an example.
Consider a man standing on the bridge. He is viewing the bird on the top of the bridge.
Click on the links 'Angle of Elevation' or 'Angle of Depression' to understand each of them.
Angle of Elevation
Join A to C, A to B and B to C to complete the right angled triangle ABC.
Side CA is the line of sight and side BC is the horizontal.
The angle which the line of sight makes with the horizontal is called the Angle of Elevation.
Angle ACB is the Angle of Elevation.
In right - angled triangle ABC, point A represents the bird viewing the man standing at point C.
The angle which the line of sight makes with the horizontal is called the Angle of Depression.
Angle DAC is the Angle of Depression.
