Numerical
A hall is 20 m long, 15.5 m wide and 8 m high. It has 6 doors each 4 m by 2 m and 4 windows each 3 m by 1.5 m. Find the cost of distempering the walls and the celling at the rate of Rs. 20 per m square.
Let us identify the data given to us
Length of the wall is equal to 20 m
Width of the wall is equal to 15.5 m
Height of the wall is equal to 8 m
Number of doors is equal to 6
Number of windows is equal to 4
Dimensions of each door is equal to 4 m into 2 m
Dimensions of each window is equal to 3 m by 1.5 m
To find cost of distempering the walls and ceiling at the rate of Rs. 20 per m square
We need to first find the surface area of the walls
Which formula are you going to use
Move your mouse over the key word hint
Click on the right answer from the given choices
Surface area of the 4 walls is equal to 2 into ln plus bh
Which is equal to 2 into 20 into 8 plus 15.5 into 8 is equal to 2 into 160 plus 124
Calculate and key in your answer in the text box.
Click check to verify your answer
Therefore, surface area of the 4 walls equal to 568 m square
Now, we shall calculate the area of the 6 doors and 4 windows
Area of each door is equal to 4 into 2 is equal to 8 m square
Therefore, Area of 6 doors is equal to 6 into 8 is equal to 48 m square
Area of each window is equal to 3 into 1.5 which is equal to 4.5 m square
Therefore Area of 4 windows is equal to 4 into 4.5 which is equal to 18 m square
Therefore, Area of doors plus Area of windows is equal to 48 plus 18 is equal to 66 m square
Area of walls to be distempered is equal to Area of 4 walls minus Area of doors plus Area of windows
Substitute the previously calculated values in the text boxes
Mouse over on the word previous steps .Click check to verify
Therefore, Area of walls to be distempered is equal to 502 m square.
Area of ceiling is equal to l into b which is equal to 20 into 15.5 which is equal to 310 m square
Area of walls to be distempered plus Area of ceiling to be distempered is equal to 502 plus 310 which is equal to 812 m square.
We have calculated the total area of the walls and the ceiling to be distempered i.e., 812 m square
Now, we need to compute the cost of distempering
It is given that cost of distempering 1 m square is equal to Rs. 20
Cost of distempering 812 m square and enter your answers in the text boxes. Click check to verify.
Therefore, Cost of distempering the walls and the ceiling at the rate of RS. 20 per m square is Rs. 16,240.
